about

Polyphonic Rituals tells a story about Music and Painting in 13 movements. It is a record of interdisciplinary inquiries on seemingly intangible connections through sound, color, meditation, and movement. Carly Seller, who has mastered weaving meditation and sound healing practices, brings harmonic and percussive instruments, both traditional and hand forged, that blend fluidly with the ethereal saxophone and electronic sounds by OCH. STArt paints bilaterally both on canvas and wallpaper, moving with the sound and the paint, something that can be heard in the record as well. Her meta-ritualistic act of painting with the body, carrying colors with both hands and feet, arms and knees, reveals the intention of being one with the medium. This ritual is further expanded by her direct connection with OCH, playing the electronic wind sounds through custom speaker-device vibrations that make the paint dance. This is an intimate choreography of mediums in different states, including fluid and powder paint, acoustic and synthesized sounds, and making use of both millennial and contemporary techniques. OCH’s technique with sound is like the paintbrush (or hand) moving paint, he captures the sounds in realtime and brings them back around transformed, placing them here and there, and creating a dialogue between the present time and its immediate past. All these polyphonic and self-reinforcing streams are entangled in this space held collectively, as movements of new rituals, for a connected world.
